LOTOS Asfalt's latest product, Modbit 45/80-55 CR rubber-modified bitumen, has been used to cover 3 km of road from Sztum (Province of Gdańsk) to Postolin. In comparison to standard road surface materials, pedestrians and drivers will particularly appreciate its reduced traffic noise and higher resistance to rut formation.

The LOTOS Group's refinery in Gdańsk was the first complex in Poland to manufacture bitumen modified with rubber from recycled tyres. The production technology implemented by LOTOS allows for broad application of the product in the laying of road surfaces. A rubber-modified bitumen surface which is 1 km long, 6 m wide and 4 cm thick requires rubber crumbs from almost 400 scrap tyres.

The new LOTOS bitumen is characterised by excellent properties. The main advantages of rubber-modified bitumen are slower ageing, and higher resistance to weather conditions and cracking caused by mechanical factors and low temperatures.

At the end of May, during the Ninth Autostrada-Polska Trade Fair in Kielce, LOTOS Asfalt won a medal for its Modbit 45/80-55 CR rubber-modified bitumen in the Technical category. Its innovativeness and excellent properties under practical conditions made it the only bitumen product to obtain an award.
